Bringing Your Memories Back to Life

Public Hall Built - Alexandra Street was becoming a key thoroughfare for public buildings.  The Police station was due for completion in 1874, and in 1872 at the cost £3,000 a Public Hall was opened, a useful facility that would be home to many organisations as well as local entertainment groups.  The footprint of the hall was eventually taken over by the Empire Theatre.

New Methodist Chapel - Park Road gained a new Methodist Chapel at a cost of £2,500, a gothic build with a minster's house and school room added later to the structure.
